Household Prayers
Prayer is a spiritual exercise that helps build a personal relationship with God. It is also an opportunity to both speak with and listen to God.
Sometimes the words come naturally, sometimes they don't. For the times when they don't, you can find prayers here that you can use. They are related to our Sunday Scripture readings.
Not every prayer will resonate with every person every week. But when they do, they can help each of us build a life of meaning and purpose in relationship with God.
Week of April 22, 2018
Household Prayer: Morning
Good shepherd, walk beside me through the joy and trouble of this day, and lead me in right paths for your name’s sake. Amen.
Household Prayer: Evening
Good shepherd, remain with me in the dark and stillness of this night, and let me lie down in safety to restore my soul. Amen.
A number of you have expressed an interest in learning Psalm 23 by heart. So it is included in this week’s household prayers.
Psalm 23 from the King James Version:
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
